A beautiful smile can open the door to opportunities so it’s no surprise that people of all ages want their teeth to look their very best. Unfortunately for some, spacing and misaligned teeth can reduce the overall appearance of your smile. However, there are many options available for correcting dental misalignment in Brooklyn, improving the cosmetic appearance and function of your teeth at any age.

Braces

Braces are used to treat teeth that may not have grown in properly, resulting in gaping and crooked teeth. Braces require regular checkups to ensure their properly improving teeth and are typically worn from one to three years.

Traditional Metal Braces: Metal braces are the most common and are often seen worn by teenagers. These braces are constructed of stainless steel with brackets that are bonded directly to the teeth. Metal braces can be customized with colorful elastics that can be changed during scheduled adjustments in the dental office. Traditional braces are extremely durable and have been around for some time, however technology has improved resulting in better comfort and effectiveness.

Lingual Braces: Lingual braces, sometimes known as incognito braces, are very similar to traditional metal braces, except that the brackets are affixed to the back of teeth rather than the front, disguising their appearance. They are an ideal alternative to individuals who are in the public eye or generally wish to hide their brace appliance. Lingual braces are still made with the same high-quality stainless steel and require the same attention and care.

Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces, also known as clear braces, are made of ceramic brackets, rather than metal, which reduces their visibility. These braces are often used on adults or individuals who may be more self conscious about the appearance of braces. However, the brackets are larger and more brittle so additional care and attention is needed.

Clear Aligners: Clear aligners vary greatly from common braces. These braces use no metal, but rather a series of acrylic trays that are custom molded to realign teeth over time. The aligners are virtually invisible and can be removed for eat, sleeping, and dental hygiene as needed. The metal-free design causes no oral abrasions and are a preferred method for many patients.

Retainers

Retainers are used after oral surgery or braces to maintain the position of teeth that have been adjusted. They are also used to treat other dental conditions that may benefit from their use.

Traditional Retainer: Traditional retainers are made of metal and plastic and are typically worn at night to prevent teeth from shifting after a procedure. They are removable and should be cleaned after use to prevent disease and keep you healthy.

Lingual Arch: A lingual arch, like lingual braces, sits behind the teeth. The ends of the metal arch are affixed to molars then wrap along the inside of teeth to ensure they keep teeth aligned.

Bonded Retainer: A bonded retainer is glued to teeth similarly to metal braces.
